Tap Handle #432: Fidelis
Tap size: 10"
Rarity: Rare
Mounting: internal 3/8" nut
Fidelis Brewing Company was founded in Burke, Virginia, in 2014 by Brian Magee. Magee went to law school and became an attorney with the goal of being in a position to help others and improve society, after which he joined the Marine Corps and became a judge advocate working at the Washington Navy Yard. His wife gave him a Mr. Beer kit one year for Father’s Day. The end product was drinkable, but not fantastic. It was just good enough, and just bad enough, to entice him to try from scratch. Almost overnight, brewing became an obsessive hobby for Magee. He decided to launch a brewery and started a crowdfunding through Fundable to help raise the remaining funds he needed to get started.

I was psyched to pick up this tap, it is simply amazing! The detail is incredible, from all the different pieces that make up the armor to the sword and the crest on the shield. And check out the heraldic symbols on the breastplate of the armor, it really adds a nice touch. The front and back sides are identical to each other, as are the sides to each other. The tap makes a great impression on every one I show it to. Brian Magee, the owner of Fidelis, knew about this site and complemented the collection...how cool is that?! If you happen to be in Virginia and find his beer, make sure you give it a try and support a worthy cause. The tap is fairly easy to come by and is very affordable considering the beauty and amount of detail.

The brewery uses a contract brewer to brew their beer. Although their Farmhouse Ale is currently their only brew, Magee is currently working on "1775". Inspired by the Ancient Ales line from Dogfish Head, Magee's new beer replicates the brew the first Marines drank at Tun Tavern, the birthplace of the Marines (and named after the year this happened). There are also 2 more varieties in the works.
For each of the four beers that Magee is planning to brew, a portion of the proceeds will go to support a different cause or organization, from caring for wounded warriors to preventing human trafficking. He has already decided that 1775 will help support the Semper Fi Fund, which cares for wounded, ill and injured troops and their families, while Farmhouse Ale supports America's heroes and their families.
Farmhouse Ale is a Saison with a nice yellow color and carbonation, a medium body and a light spiciness. It is well-balanced and easy to drink.
