Tap Handle #34: Bad Frog - Middle Finger

This is a hilarious tap. Although some might be offended by it, most think it's funny. The curious thing is that the frog only has four fingers, so there is really no middle finger. It's a tribute to the artist and our own subconscious that we can attribute it as such.

Bad Frog Beer was founded by Jim Wauldron in Rose City, Michigan in 1995. Wauldron was a talented t-shirt designer who came up with the idea after his co-workers told him frogs were wimpy. The popularity of the Bad Frog t-shirt exploded overnight, with many people asking how to obtain the Bad Frog Beer that the frog was holding. Wauldron did some research, then began brewing Bad Frog Beer. The controversy of the "middle finger" on the label led to the beer being banned in 8 states. Bad Frog Beer is described as an amber beer, with one reviewer on ratebeer.com claiming that Bad Frog Beer is the old Falstaff recipe. Bad Frog Beer suffered from poor reviews and ratings, and relied on the gimmick for sales. The current status of Bad Frog is unclear; they have a Facebook page (which has not been updated since last July) and an active web store, but ratebeer.com lists them as "retired", and their website has been under construction for some time. Weighted average on ratebeer.com is 1.68 out of 5.
