Tap Handle #185: Drake's IPA
This is one gorgeous tap, from the ship sailing with the sun behind it, to the globe underneath the ship. It's also pretty rare. A great addition to the collection.

Drake’s Brewery was founded in 1989 in San Leandro, California by Roger Lind. Originally known as Lind Brewing Company, Roger established one of America’s earliest wholesale-only, keg-only, microbreweries of the modern era. Drake’s facility inhabited the former powerhouse of San Leandro’s Caterpillar tractor company. As a one man-operation, Roger would brew, keg, and deliver all the beer himself, as well as wear the many hats of salesman, bookkeeper, tour guide, festival crew, etc.
In 1998, Roger (with his eye on getting his teaching credentials) turned over the reins to the Rogers family that owned a coffee roastery next door to the brewery. The brewery doubled in size and entered the bottle market for the first time. In late 2008, Triple Rock Brewery/Jupiter owner John Martin took over Drake’s operations, with his business partner Roy Kirkorian. Martin had close ties to Drake’s over the years...Lind actually started his professional brewing career at Martin’s Triple Rock Brewery back in 1987.
Drake's IPA is copper-colored with aromas of pine and grapefruit, and won a gold medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival. Weighted average on ratebeer.com is 3.77 out of 5.
