Sierra Blanca Brewing was founded in 1996 in Carrizozo, New Mexico in 1996 by Rich and Sue Weber. The name Sierra Blanca means White Mountain and comes from a 12,000 foot peak in the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico. Rich had a background in electrical/mechanical engineering but wanted to open his own brewery. After hiring a brewer and chemical engineer, Rich found his skills were essential in maintaining the brewing equipment. In 2006, they were able to expand, and moved operations to Moriarty, located just outside Albuquerque. In 2007 Rich and Sue purchased the Rio Grande Brewery and now run both brands as the largest brewer in New Mexico. They brew 5 beers under Sierra Blanca and 4 under Rio Grande.

Alien Amber is a blend of 8 different types of barley and no hops to give it a distinctive flavor. Weighted average on ratebeer.com is 2.62 out of 5.
