Otter Creek Brewery was founded in Middlebury, Vermont in 1991. In 1995 they expanded by moving down the street to a new location. In 1997, Wolaver Brewing, the first USDA-certified organic brewer, merged with Otter Creek. By 2005 the Otter Creek line was distributing 6 year-round and 7 seasonal beers to 22 states. In the past six months they've invested $1 million dollars in improving quality and efficiency in the plant, and the label art has been upgraded.

Copper Ale was the first beer brewed by Otter Creek. It is a medium-bodied amber ale inspired by North German Altbiers. Weighted average on ratebeer.com is 3.02 out of 5.
