Tap Handle #7: Moosehead Beer Backpack

I love the detail on this tap: the strap that hangs over the branch stump, the rolled-up sleeping bag, the boots down at the bottom that not only have laces, but eyelets too...this is a high quality tap. If it wasn't for the Totem Pole tap, this would be Moosehead's best.

Moosehead Brewery has been around since 1867. The founder, Susannah Oland, came to Halifax, Nova Scotia, from England. She lost her first brewery after her husband died. She lost her second brewery to fire. After she died her sons took over, but then one of the sons was killed and both the city and the brewery were destroyed in the "Halifax Harbour Explosion." The surviving son, George Oland, moved his family to New brunswick and bought another brewery. He was able to buy a second brewery in Saint John, which is the site of current-day Moosehead. I guess persistence pays off. Moosehead Lager has won several awards, including Gold at the Monde Selection, the World Beer Cup, and the Canadian Brewing Awards. Weighted average on ratebeer.com is 2.25 out of 5.
