Tap Handle #786: Leinenkugel - IPL

Tap size:  12.25"

Rarity:  beer (and tap) retired, fragile

Mounting:  internal 3/8" nut

Here's a tap that has appeared in the Museum multiple times, but has not been profiled. That's because this tap used for giveaways very early on in the Museum's history when I happened to get a batch of them for a great price. It's a really cool tap, with a shaft that looks like a log that has signs nailed to it. One sign says Leinenkugel, while three smaller signs spell out "IPL". The front and the back of the tap are identical so I have reduced the number of photos taken. One reason I have listed this as fragile in the Rarity entry above is because I've seen several copies of this tap over the years that had pieces of one (or more) of the signs broken off. However, despite that fragility and the fact that the beer and the tap are retired, it is very easy to find one in good condition for an affordable price on the secondary market, because there were so many of them made.

For more about Leinenkugel, see this post.

First introduced in 2014, Leinenkugal's Inadia Pale Lager (IPL) allowed the hops in the beer to come through more clearly than other beers because it was a lager instead of an ale. It had tropical, citrus notes and a little spicy pepper. Production of IPL ceased in late 2017.

Ratebeer:  3.25 out of 5
